Science North, the second largest science centre in Canada, wanted a video to accompany an”Abandoned Mines and Bats” workshop held in 2012. The purpose of the video was to educate the mining companies about bats living in abandoned mines. It was also currently being displayed on one of their show floors as part of Science North’s bat exhibit. A french version was also created.
For this project, we had packed our gear and traveled to an abandoned mine in Northern Ontario. We hauled our 12 foot motorized dolly, lghts, batteries (to run the lights), multiple cameras, and sound gear to the mine’s entrance to grab some amazing shots. During the night, with the help of several world renowned experts in bats attending the workshop, we managed to capture some macro shots of the little creatures. Needless to say, by the end of this project, we were all completely fascinated by bats.
